Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the earliest industrialized plastics. It is a linear polymer obtained through free radical polymerization of vinyl chloride monomers under the action of initiators. Compared with other plastics, PVC has characteristics such as flame retardancy, chemical resistance, excellent electrical insulation, and high strength. Moreover, plasticizing and copolymerization methods can significantly alter the properties of PVC. Adding about 30% plasticizer can be used to make flexible and elastic soft PVC; without or with less plasticizer, or mainly using PVC copolymers, hard PVC can be made. Unlike other plastics, it can be made into various pipes, plates, profiles, films, fibers, coatings, artificial leather, wire and cable insulation, etc., from soft to hard, and is widely used in industry, agriculture, and daily life. In synthetic adhesives, acrylate adhesives are a relatively eye-catching newcomer, with unique properties, a wide variety of types, and countless patent reports. When used for bonding between PVC materials, acrylate adhesives have low volatile organic compound content and strong bonding, but when used for bonding PVC films, due to the smooth surface of PVC films, the initial adhesion is low, and the bonding strength is poor. Experts have used a self-made S-01 emulsifier to synthesize a copolymer acrylate adhesive. It is used for bonding PVC films to porous materials such as wood and leather, and the effect is more significant. The effect is better when the S-01 emulsifier is used with sodium dodecyl sulfate. When the ratio of butyl acrylate to vinyl acetate is 33:4, the peel strength of the adhesive can reach 4300g/25cm, and the amount of emulsifier is 4% of the monomer, which is better.

Experts have studied polyacrylate series adhesives. When used for flocking the surface of artificial leather, it overcomes the shortcomings of oily adhesives in production, such as environmental pollution, high energy consumption, high fire protection requirements, and great harm to the physical and mental health of workers, and its quality has reached or exceeded that of products obtained from oily adhesives. This adhesive is mainly made of acrylate, using a high-performance emulsion system through emulsion polymerization. (PVC adhesion promoter)

Using a specially formulated hydroxylated polyacrylate self-crosslinking emulsion as the main body, a certain amount of polyisocyanate solution is added, and after effective dispersion and homogenization treatment, a water-based adhesive system suitable for PVC-U pipes is prepared. During the curing process of its adhesive film, the isocyanate group reacts with the polyvinyl alcohol hydroxyl group in the system to generate urethane, forming a second crosslinking. The resulting polyacrylate-polyurethane interpenetrating network structure can enhance the cohesion and water resistance of the adhesive layer, completing the firm bonding of PVC materials. The bonding strength can reach 3.5 MPa, the viscosity reaches 0.85~10 Pa·s, and the storage period is 0.5a. Among them, the amount of polyisocyanate added has an important influence on the bonding strength, water resistance, and storage period of the adhesive.

As the amount of polyisocyanate in the formulation increases, the bonding strength also gradually increases. In fact, an addition of 4% to 5% already has a satisfactory strength effect. In addition, adhesives with low polyisocyanate content have poor water resistance. The longer the bonding plate is immersed in water, the more serious the strength decrease. As the polyisocyanate content in the formulation increases, the effect of water on the bonding strength gradually weakens. A copolymer emulsion is prepared using acrylate, acrylic acid, and vinyl acetate as raw materials, and a modified tackifying resin plasticizer is added to improve the initial bonding strength of the emulsion to the PVC film. Experiments show that when 15-20 parts of modified tackifying resin are added per 100 parts of emulsion, the peel strength of the adhesive can reach 483-485 N/25 mm, and the adhesive has good wettability, high initial bonding strength, easy curing, high viscosity, non-toxicity, and non-pollution. It has high promotion value in the fields of wood and furniture. (PVC adhesion promoter)
