Summary: Nü'erjie is a local traditional festival popular in the Guangyuan area of Sichuan Province. Legend has it that during the Tang Dynasty, the mother of Empress Wu Zetian conceived while touring the He Wan River in Guangyuan, giving birth to Wu Zetian on the 23rd day of the first lunar month. In the past, this day was celebrated as Wu Zetian's birthday. On this day, people would flock to Huangze Temple, Zetian Dam, and the banks of the Jialing River for outings. Women would also dress up and invite each other to stroll along the river for good fortune.

　　The Origin of the Daughter's Festival

　　The Daughter's Festival is a local traditional festival prevalent in the Guangyuan area of Sichuan. Legend has it that Empress Wu Zetian's mother conceived while traveling by the He Wan River in Guangyuan, giving birth to Wu Zetian on the 23rd day of the first lunar month. In the past, people celebrated this day as Wu Zetian's birthday. On this day, people would flock to Huangze Temple, Zetian Dam, and the banks of the Jialing River for outings. Women would also dress up and invite each other to stroll along the river for good fortune.

　　In 1988, the Guangyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government revived this folk festival and designated September 1st of each year as "Daughter's Day". In 2007, the Guangyuan Daughter's Festival was included in the first batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage representative projects in Sichuan Province.
