Summary: Also known as thermoplastic polyurethane rubber, abbreviated as TPU, it is an (AB)n type segmented linear polymer. A is a high molecular weight (1000-6000) polyester or polyether, and B is a diol containing 2-12 linear carbon atoms. The chemical structure between the AB segments is connected by diisocyanate, usually MDI. Thermoplastic polyurethane rubber relies on intermolecular hydrogen bond crosslinking or mild crosslinking between macromolecular chains. With increasing or decreasing temperature, these two crosslinking structures are reversible.
I. Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomer
Also known as thermoplastic polyurethane rubber, abbreviated as TPU, is an (AB)n type block linear polymer. A is a high molecular weight (1000-6000) polyester or polyether, and B is a diol containing 2-12 linear carbon atoms. The chemical structure between the AB segments is diisocyanate, usually MDI. Thermoplastic polyurethane rubber relies on intermolecular hydrogen bond crosslinking or slight crosslinking between macromolecular chains. With increasing or decreasing temperature, these two crosslinking structures are reversible. In the molten state or solution state, the intermolecular forces weaken, while after cooling or solvent evaporation, strong intermolecular forces connect them together, restoring the original properties of the solid. Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers are divided into polyester and polyether types, with a relative density of 1.10-1.25. The relative density of the polyether type is smaller than that of the polyester type. Each type of material, ester type and ether type, can be further divided into aromatic and aliphatic types. Aliphatic types have better UV resistance but are more expensive. Both types of materials have good oil resistance.
II. TPU Processing
1. Casting
The raw materials are plasticized and melted by an extruder. They are extruded through a T-shaped mold, cast into a sheet-like form onto the roller surface of a steadily rotating cooling roller, and the film is cooled and shaped on the cooling roller. After drawing and trimming, the product is wound up.
2. Blow Molding
A plastic processing technology that heats and melts plastic particles and then blows them into a thin film. The quality of the film produced by this process is related to the blow molding machine and the plastic particles. Due to the elasticity and viscosity of the TPU material itself, it will stick together and shrink during molding. To avoid this, PE is used during production.

IV. TPU Film Usage
The excellent processability of TPU film is the reason for its market popularity. Currently, it can be used with needle sewing and high-frequency welding, also known as heat sealing, hot pressing, and high-frequency welding. The working principle is similar to that of a microwave oven, mainly relying on the electromagnetic field changes of tens of thousands, millions, or even hundreds of millions of times per second acting on the object to generate heat for bonding. Factors affecting bonding strength include: high-frequency output power, heat sealing time, heat sealing pressure, and material melt index. 1. Automotive Industry --- Armrests, protective bars, floors, sun visors, interiors, window films.
2. Footwear Materials --- Potential market; printable, easy to process (high-frequency melting, melting point varies), environmentally friendly, meets EU import standards; preference for bright and colorful products; sports shoe logos, shoe upper decorations, air cushions, shoe sole decorations, waterproof shoe materials.
3. Clothing Bonding.
4. Ready-made garments, aprons, curtains, bed sheets, bedspreads, shower curtains, tablecloths.
5. Umbrellas, raincoats, protective gear.
6. Bags, suitcases.
7. Chemical Industry.
8. Electronics.
9. Medical: Surgical caps and gowns; medical mattresses; ice packs; plasma bags; surgical protective covers; female condoms; mildew-proof, antibacterial, and biocompatible (cytotoxicity test, sensitization test, intradermal reaction test).
10. Clothing accessories: Transparent elastic bands, bra liquid bags, chlorine bags, invisible shoulder straps, water-stop bands.
11. Sporting goods: Balls, scooters, sleds, snow boots, camping products (tents, water bottles), ski gloves, aprons.
12. Inflatable toys, advertising balloons --- Air tightness, tear resistance, tensile strength, withstand high air pressure.
13. Water and underwater products.
14. Lifebuoys, inflatable sleeping bags, inflatable water beds, inflatable boat materials and linings.
15. Safety bulletproof glass interlayer film: Generally, high UV-resistant transparent aliphatic materials with high tear resistance are selected.
16. Industrial products: Conveyor belts; insulating floors; oil bags; fireproof cloth; heat and sound insulation materials.
17. Baby products: Toys, cribs, strollers, bib materials and linings.
