Summary: TPU film, a thermoplastic TPU elastomer, is made by extrusion mixing of MDI with NCO functional groups, POLYOL with OH functional groups, and 1.4BG. The characteristics of TPU film are mainly reflected in the following ten aspects:
1. Hardness
The higher the hardness level of the TPU film, the higher the puncture resistance and wear resistance of the product. With a low hardness level, the product exhibits a very smooth texture and a very soft feel.
2. Abrasion Resistance
The abrasion resistance of TPU film surpasses many other common polymers. It is more than five times more wear-resistant than natural rubber and is one of the preferred materials for wear-resistant products.
3. Tensile Properties
TPU film has a tensile strength as high as 70 MPa and an elongation at break of up to 800%. One of its most commendable properties is its tensile ability.
4. Weather Resistance
TPU film has better weather resistance than natural rubber and other synthetic rubbers.
5. Low-Temperature Flexibility

6. Temperature Resistance
TPU film has a temperature resistance of up to 130 degrees Celsius, and the polyether series has a temperature resistance of up to 90 degrees Celsius.
7. Oil and Chemical Resistance
PU is a strong polar polymer material with little affinity for non-polar mineral oils and is almost unaffected by fuel oil and machine oil. Among TPU products, the polyester series has better oil resistance.
8. Biomedical Properties
TPU film has excellent biocompatibility, is non-toxic, non-allergenic, non-irritating, and non-pyrogenic, so it is widely used in medical, hygiene, and related products, as well as sports and protective equipment.
9. Environmentally Friendly and Biodegradable
TPU film does not produce air pollution when burned and can biodegrade in soil within 3-5 years. According to Coating Online, the polyester series will completely hydrolyze after soaking in water at 50 degrees Celsius for half a year, or at 70 degrees Celsius for 3 weeks, or at 100 degrees Celsius for 3-4 days.
10. Wide Range of Applications
TPU film can be vacuum or heat processed while retaining its flexibility and performance. This material can also be welded into irregular shapes.
