I. Tarpaulin Maintenance

Proper maintenance is crucial for all types of tarpaulins, significantly extending their lifespan.

1. For brightly colored tarpaulins, avoid contact with hard-to-clean substances like carbon ink. After cleaning, apply toothpaste or white chalk powder evenly, and let it air dry to prevent discoloration. Alternatively, cover with two sheets of clean white paper during drying, then remove. This also helps prevent discoloration.

2. Address minor issues like broken or loose threads, or loose fittings promptly for repair to extend the tarpaulin's lifespan.

3. Regularly clean the tarpaulin to prevent mildew and odor. Do not machine wash. Some may think that because tarpaulins are durable and inexpensive, hand washing is unnecessary. However, unlike upholstery fabrics, machine washing can easily cause fading and damage.

4. After cleaning, air dry the tarpaulin in a well-ventilated, cool place. Avoid direct sunlight or high-heat drying to prevent glue degradation or detachment and premature aging.

5. Avoid contact with acids, alkalis, salts, and other chemicals to prevent corrosion, glue detachment, and deformation.

6. Clean gently and evenly. Avoid harsh scrubbing to prevent thread breakage or damage to patterns and fittings.

7. Avoid contact with sharp objects to prevent scratches and tears.

II. Selecting the Right Tarpaulin

1. When purchasing, tarpaulins can be tested with water. A good quality tarpaulin, after being rubbed and then sprinkled with water, will not leak. Poor quality tarpaulins will show problems.

2. An important indicator of tarpaulin quality is the density of the warp and weft. Higher density means greater strength and better quality.

3. Examine the surface; a rougher surface indicates lower quality. When checking a tarpaulin, assess the roughness and feel the softness.
