Summary: Lightweight conveyor belts are gradually gaining importance in the conveyor belt industry in mainland China, with hundreds of types and specifications available and widespread applications in numerous fields. Examples include food, pharmaceuticals, electronics, tobacco, printing, packaging, timber, textiles, building materials, transportation, postal services, and logistics. They are used for conveying items, bags, and bulk materials, as well as in factory production lines and agricultural and sideline product processing, hence also known as process belts.
Lightweight conveyor belts are gradually gaining importance in the conveyor belt industry, with hundreds of types and specifications, and are widely used in many fields. For example, food, pharmaceuticals, electronics, tobacco, printing, packaging, wood, textiles, building materials, transportation, postal services, and logistics industries. Used for conveying items, bags, and bulk materials, as well as factory internal production line operations and agricultural and sideline product processing, it is also called a process belt. Conveyor belts are the main components of belt conveyors, playing a role in carrying super-load materials. Compared with other transportation methods, using conveyor belts as a transportation medium has advantages such as safe operation, convenient use, easy maintenance, low freight costs, continuous operation, and shorter transportation distances. Lightweight conveyor belts are refined products among conveyor belts, with an allowable working tensile strength of less than 50N/mm, featuring thin and light belts, good dimensional stability, high tension, bright colors, safety, and non-toxicity. I. Structure of Lightweight Conveyor Belts
Lightweight conveyor belts consist of a cover layer, a carcass layer, a bottom layer, and an interlayer when the carcass has more than two layers of fabric. (Crosslinking agent used in PVC lightweight conveyor belts)
The cover layer is the conveying surface of the lightweight conveyor belt. According to the nature of the conveyed material, it should have good heat resistance, oil resistance, water resistance, aging resistance, corrosion resistance, anti-static properties, non-toxicity, etc. Materials include rubber, rubber-plastic blends, PVC, TPU, TPE, polyamide, and fabrics. The core fabric of the carcass layer is generally one to three layers, most commonly two layers. The warp yarn material is mostly high-modulus, low-elongation polyester filament, commonly 1000D and 1500D. Weft yarns include polyester filament, polyester monofilament, and nylon filament. When good lateral rigidity is required during conveying, polyester fabric with polyester monofilament as the weft yarn is selected as the carcass layer. The fabric structure includes plain weave, twill weave, and direct warp and weft weave according to the weaving style. To ensure good adhesion between the cover layer and the interlayer, the fabric needs to be activated or impregnated. (Crosslinking agent used in PVC lightweight conveyor belts)
The bottom layer is the driving surface of the lightweight conveyor belt. Whether it is plate support or roller support, it contacts the support and the drive system. It is generally a carcass fabric; some lightweight conveyor belts have a bottom layer with the same coating material as the cover layer or interlayer. The interlayer material can be the same as or different from the cover layer. The thickness of lightweight conveyor belts is generally between 0.5-4mm, and the maximum thickness does not exceed 7mm. II. Production and Processing Technology of Lightweight Conveyor Belts
Whether it is a rubber or resin lightweight conveyor belt, the production method used produces roll products. Before being provided to users, post-processing is required, namely cutting to a certain length and width, and ring joint processing. Depending on the cover layer material, ring joint methods include bevel grinding, tooth welding, and nail buckle lap joint. The lightweight conveyor belt with a good joint requires consistent thickness and a smooth surface to ensure accurate material conveying. (Crosslinking agent used in PVC lightweight conveyor belts)
